While Royal Mile Backpackers, located on the famous Royal Mile of Edinburgh, is our smallest hostel and provides a chilled, quiet atmosphere with the chance to really get to know the staff. Amazing view from my room on the top floor, super uniquely decorated interior, comfortable lounges, but the best part... of the Castle Rock Hostel is easily the people. The employees/long-term residents are all absolutely wonderful people and turned what was likely going to be a lonely last couple of nights in Edinburgh into something I didn’t want to leave. I’m really bad with names, but shoutout to the 2 Aussie girls especially for reaching out and letting me in on some of the fun.
I’ll definitely be back soon! Probably for a much longer period of time!read more

Sono arrivato da solo... dall'italia, solo successivamente raggiunto da un'amica.
Avevo bisogno di un posto dove ritrovare me stesso, uno spazio stimolante per lavorare sul mio essere nel mondo, fuori dai confini della routine.
Ho incontrato persone provenienti da ovunque nel mondo, tutte interessanti, vere, vive! È stato un scambio pazzesco, e lì ho lasciato un pezzo di cuore.
Vorrei tornarci, anche come volontario, e fermarmi a vivere la meravigliosa Edinburgo per qualche mese. Mai respirata prima un'atmosfera così affascinante ed avvolgente.

Stayed for 2 nights in a mixed sex dorm room, with a friend. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Seriously, the showers here are nicer than the one in my flat. My only issues were the weak wifi and tiny lockers. I'm always less comfortable when I can't fit my backpack in a locked space with my own lock. But seriously, all things considered, wonderful place.read more

Lovely hostel. Made the experience of staying in Edinburgh even better I think. I was a bit leery of being in a room... without privacy curtains, but the dorm stayed dark and all the guests were pretty respectable (at least on my dorm). The showers were lovely, as were the kitchen and living spaces. The only thing that sucked was the Wi-Fi, but with that many people accessing it, it was understandable. Besides, relaxing in the posh lounge where there was a better Wi-Fi signal wasn't the worst thing. Thanks for having me!read more

Enjoyed my stay and the location is great especially for attending the Tattoo. Prices were a bit high for a dorm hostel... but that's to be expected in August.
There's a cheap breakfast available. For £1.50 you get a bowl of cereal, bread and butter, and a glass of juice. Great value and very suitable for just getting going in the morning.
There's Wi-Fi included and each bunk has two outlets (in my room anyway) and the lockers have integrated locks which is great and every hostel should have.
The toilet/shower rooms could've used a bit of attention but again I stayed during a very busy period. I wish we could've checked in earlier than 2p but at least there is luggage storage and they'll let you hang out in the common areas until then.
All in all a pleasant stay and I'd stay again.read more

I was looking forward to staying in this hostel for my first trip to Edinburgh but recent events have definitely made... me change my mind. Very confusing information on their webpage that is not up to date and poor customer service. Communicating with the staff was difficult - even though they answered to emails fast, they didn't offer enough information and there were many misunderstandings. Never before have I come across a hostel where staying in the same room with your friends is made this difficult. Seems like Castle Rock Hostel is more interested in following their inflexible policies than serving their customers. I ended up wasting my money and time.. I'm very disappointed.read more

By far one of the best places I have stayed.
I was in the shared 8 bed (16 person) room. And it was seperated nicely... as to not feel so crazy.
The staff were quick to clean and turn around a room.
PROS:
-Clean rooms
-Shared washrooms were cleaned everyday
-Large kitchen for multiple people to cook and sit.
-A variety of common areas for people to hangout it. (Movie room, music area, this cute lounge to just get some alone time, and then the large common area where the pool table was located.
-Breakfast was a 1pound 50. Which has been crazy cheap.
-24/7 reception
-Friendly and helpful staff. All around awesome possom people.
-Most of the staff are travelers themselves so they're full of helpful information on what to see or do.
- Dont loose your orange card �
-Every night of the week theres something going on for people to do. (Beer pong, pub crawls, andventures in the daytime to Arthurs seat and night tours)
-Id highly suggest spending at least a week there to see and experience everything.
CONS:
The only one would be the hill. And thats honestly the lamest thing to complain about. But have you seen Scotland, its all hills.
Overall the Hostel was one of the best Ive been too and I have been recommending it like crazy to everyone thats I've heard heading that way. I would 10/10 come back again.read more

They know how to make travellers feeling like in home, even tho hostel is really big. If you going out with Lachlan or Dario be prepared for some real Edinburgh nightlife experience. There is something going on every evening: beer pong, free pub crawl, traditional scottish dancing, pool competition... I have stayed at quite a lot of hostels and Castle Rock remains one of the best hostels I´ve been to.
Perfect... location! Really organazied, great staff and cool environment and interior. Definitely deserves being voted the best hostel in Scotland.

This was my first ever stay at a hostel, and I honestly don't know how any other is going to measure up! There are so... many different lounges to hang out in, a huge kitchen space to cook in, free WiFi to keep in touch with family and friends, and free hot beverages! I met some of the most wonderful people at Castle Rock, and the staff was so helpful and genuinely kind in letting me crash on a couch when I got in on an early flight! Also, if you get the chance to do the pub crawl, just do it - it's free! Thanks for an amazing experience! Amazing place to stay at, stayed Wednesday night. Really positive vibe and vibrance about the place. Staff were very... nice, from the lovely young French lady on reception who likes castles to the nice guy helping at breakfast and all the other staff. I shared a room with lovely people, 2 Australian girls, 4 Brazilian boys and a lovely young man from Hong Kong. Fantastic place would recommend to anyone 🙂 🙂 🙂read more

In my three months of traveling, this was one of my favorite hostels. It is in a fantastic location (with the Edinburgh... Castle right out your window), great place to meet people, fun activities (i.e. free pub crawl, pool competition, movie nights), and great staff! Wonderful homely hostel with great decor and facilities. Was pleasantly surprised that they have a service where staff... do your laundry for you and deliver it back to your room for £3.50 - every other hostel I've been in, you have to do your own laundry for about the same price! Enjoyed the pub crawl as well, had fun with great people and discovered some new nightlife spots for me in Edinburgh. My only small qualm is that the shower cubicles get way too hot and need some ventilation - I have to move into a toilet cubicle after showering to get dressed otherwise I just sweat. But apart from that, I'm quite sad to have to leave after 4 nights, but may try to return soon 🙂read more

This was easily the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The room was not only very clean, but it was well designed and had... a great color scheme! The view from our window was fantastic. The location was prime and we could walk anywhere- to the shops, to Arthur's Seat, fun pubs, tours, and not to mention the castle right across the street. The staff were very friendly and a joy to converse with. Castle Rock Hostel really helped make my experience in Edinburgh unforgettable. I hope to come back soon! Thanks you guys!read more

Ostello sulla Royal Mile a 10 minuti a piedi dal castello, praticamente vicino a tutto. Sono tutti molto gentili e la... struttura è molto pulita sia nelle camere che negli spazi comuni. La cucina è ben fornita di piatti, padelle e spazio per muoversi e per riporre il proprio cibo. La zona svago/relax adiacente ha molti tavoli per mangiare, un biliardo e divani. Onestamente ha superato le mie aspettative. Letto comodo e camera spaziosa con anche una scrivania (camera da 4). Essendo in una struttura storica non ha ascensore.read more

It was fine but just little bits like the reception area stank... of stale smoke and the showers weren't that clean. Bed was clean enough but the room smelt of something manky. I probably won't go back again seeing as there's such a choice in the city was just one of the cheapest. Staff were lovely and helpfulread more

I had an amazing stay at RMB. They are located in the middle of The Royal Mile, meaning most hotspots are really close,... but there are also many places to eat or go shopping right in the area.
I stayed in one of the female dorms (with 10 beds in it), after 22:00 it is expected that you are quiet in the bedrooms and the hallways which was much appreciated. In the room I stayed in I could enjoy the music from the pub two doors down, but the music stops at about midnight I think.
I can definitely recommend RMB as the staff and location are incredibly great!

Thanks for the welcome thanks for everything. We had a really good time and the reception really... assisted us in everything. The very nice environment located in the center of the city with a kitchen always open with the possibility of being able to drink hot drinks for free. Very youthful environment and with many very very courteous people.
