About Us

Royal Mile Backpackers is a centrally located hostel with a HUGE personality. It’s the perfect base for exploring Edinburgh!

We’re a small and cosy hostel situated smack bang in the city-centre overlooking Scotland’s most famous street – The Royal Mile. Located halfway between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, you can’t get much closer to the city centre attractions; bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs.

With our open plan kitchen and dinning area, making new friends is easy and there is plenty of space to chill and chat with staff and guests in our cosy lounge area with it’s own open fire. Our dorms are light and bright and our bathrooms are clean and spacious with hot showers.

The hostel also offers free Wi-Fi and free tea, coffee & hot chocolate. Our friendly receptionists will offer you some great advice on what to see and do and where to eat and drink during your stay in Edinburgh.

The absolute best location in Edinburgh just 5 mins walk from the train station. It doesn't have a bar which is great... as it means you get some peace and it's very suitable for older lady backpackers!read more

I had an amazing stay at RMB. They are located in the middle of The Royal Mile, meaning most hotspots are really close,... but there are also many places to eat or go shopping right in the area. I stayed in one of the female dorms (with 10 beds in it), after 22:00 it is expected that you are quiet in the bedrooms and the hallways which was much appreciated. In the room I stayed in I could enjoy the music from the pub two doors down, but the music stops at about midnight I think. I can definitely recommend RMB as the staff and location are incredibly great! Thanks for the amazing time guys!read more

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING Thanks for the welcome thanks for everything. We had a really good time and the reception really... assisted us in everything. The very nice environment located in the center of the city with a kitchen always open with the possibility of being able to drink hot drinks for free. Very youthful environment and with many very very courteous people. I highly recommend it to all young people who are looking for a central hostel in the city and who for those who have no experience can find very valid support in this hostel. I found the welcoming being very cold and not friendly at all! I wish I was received as a guest, as a friend, and feel... like home, that was not the case. The stay was just fine then, clean bed, house, kitchen very clean and well kept...For me what makes my stay is the human behavior, and i was disappointed by the way i have been received.read more

Very nice and clean hostel right in the city centre. The beds are comfortable but fairly short, the showers clean, the... kitchen well equipped. Please note if you are booking for more than 5 people you need to contact us directly before making the booking.
Our cancellation policy is 48 hours prior to 10:30am on the day of arrival. No-shows will be charged the equivalent of two nights stay.
